At One Ocean Foundation, we strongly believe in the key role of business in fostering a sustainable transformation.

Through our multi-year research initiative, Business for Ocean Sustainability (B4OS), we explore the relationship between business and ocean sustainability, aiming to drive positive impact across industries, since 2019.

The scientific review conducted in the framework of our research underlined that all industries, directly or indirectly interacting with the ocean, potentially exert a pressure on Good Environmental Status descriptors (GES), identified by the European Commission.

A blue science-based reporting framework

Our research revealed limited awareness of ocean-related issues, insufficient action to reduce pressures on marine ecosystems, and a lack of ocean-specific corporate reporting.

In 2021, these findings led us to develop the

OII is the first global science-based reporting framework dedicated to the ocean, designed to address the most significant impacts that companies and industrial sectors exert on marine ecosystems.
